- honeymoon planning!
- weekend in review, a few weeks late
- miscellaneous crap

...in that order!

The honeymoon plan is finally sort of half-assedly coming together, and will involve a [redacted] and a [redacted], and untold bucks for lodging, food, and booze. We will do the deed here in the [location], travel to [redacted], and start bumming around from there. This will all happen soon... need-to-know basis only, I could tell you more but then I would have to kill you.

It'll be fun!

Atreides and his lady came to visit a couple of weekends ago, and we had a great time. They arrived at oh-dark-thirty Thursday night, and then I had hell-day working Friday on a dead implementation, which sucked, but from about 4PM Friday onwards, we were good!

The man, being old and stuff, had to crash much of Friday afternoon after arising early for work Friday morning, so our visitors and I saw a movie (Silver Surfer; sucked), then had dinner at a local Indian restaurant (rocked!), then hung out having white Russians and watching Freaks and Geeks.

Saturday, we started with a rousing breakfast of cheese grits and other things, then went to the Atlanta High Museum of Art, and saw the Louvre exhibit and a few other areas/exhibits. Then we had tasty burgers at the Vortex in Little 5 Points. Then we went to Stone Mountain Park where we did some uber-touristy things like ride the skycar to the top and back down, ride the train around the mountain, let the train roll over assorted change, watch people get squirted in the amusement park area, get our butts rained on, then watched the laser show.

The laser show is a funny thing. Teh man was going on and on about how cool it is, how much he liked it last time he saw it, etc. The laser show was also a feature of my teenage life, but I remembered it being sort of corny and, to borrow atreides' term, jingoistic (ha!), but, ok, it can be an experience, so yeah, it's fun, let's do it. Well, it turns out that the last time teh man saw it, it was a Dark Side of the Moon special theme laser show, and he was sort of laughing at all the 'God Bless America' and 'Georgia On My Mind' stuff that is the usual Stone Mountain fare. But, you know, it was a cultural experience ;)

Afterwards, it was like 10:30 and the crew was starving, so we went to this late-night Korean BBQ place that teh man's kids frequent late at night. It's open all night and resides behind a strip joint, but really, the food is tasty, and you're not terribly likely to get mugged. Much. Atreides' woman was completely into it, culinarily-speaking this is an adventurous lady... Atreides was like, 'uh, nope', and stuck with his rice and meat, rofl.

On Sunday we kept it low-key in the morning with breakfast snacking, before departing for the airport. If anything, the visit was too short. We thoroughly enjoyed hanging with atreides and meeting his sparkling fiancee, who, I have to say, is a really lucky find for atreides because she is really, really cool, and I hope they can visit again, or perhaps we will find ourselves in that neck of the woods before another three or four years pass. We just hope we didn't bore them to death.

Work is teh suck, we're struggling with a new product we've put out, and about half of the struggle is our own damned fault, but ah well, we can only do our best, isn't that right?

The White Russians kicked my ass last weekend; teh man, after being encouraged by atreides' snazzy pitcher-o-booze technique for making mixed drinks, made up a pitcher of White Russians. We also bought a new grill (but not a Weber because we are too damned cheap) and new glassware, and grilled out, each had a White Russian, and ate and were merry. I guess my one drink was in a bigger glass than I was used to or something, because dear God did I get ripped. We took a midnight stroll through our woods, with me falling on my ass, oh, only two or three times, both of us havng a blast (as well as the neighbors, I'm sure), then I remember nothing until finding myself in the shower with the taste of vomit in my mouth. Oh God I felt ill for two days... no more White Russians for me.

The cats are finally starting to get along better, we only have screaming catfight once every couple of days now, rather than several a night. cranky old lady cats.

Teh man's kids came over for grilled steaks a couple of nights ago; that was a really nice thing. Now that they're young adults and out on their own, I know he doesn't see them as much as he wants, and sometimes that's tough on him. In ten years I guess I'll experience that 'pulling away for independence' thing for myself and gain more understanding of it.

We have a joint gym membership and started working out together a couple of weeks ago... he is so hawt

We're happy

Is the only laser show worth seeing. It really is awesome. The music makes it.

Congrats on all the fun you're having.

Korean BBQ by wiredog (2.00 / 0) #2 Fri Jun 29, 2007 at 04:03:32 PM EST
Mmmmm. Korean BBQ. Yummy.

Drinking white russians until you black out and puke. Sounds like my first try at college... The try where I got academically expelled. Because if I can't remember it, it must have been fun!

(We can strip mine the rest later.)

White Russians by MillMan (2.00 / 0) #3 Fri Jun 29, 2007 at 04:33:04 PM EST
The night I met $girl involved a lot of White Russians and a good amount of puking.

When I'm imprisoned as an enemy combatant, will you blog about it?

the only fun part of stone mountain is walking up it. and standing right on the edge of it.

It's official... by atreides (2.00 / 0) #5 Fri Jun 29, 2007 at 05:30:20 PM EST
You're old. I mean, it's not like we were shooting straight vodka (even though I was prepared for that possibility). :)

As for bored, a thousand times NO! In fact, I'm beginning to think Welsh Girl likes you more than I do now and I'm not even sure that's possible... So, Jeebus willing and the crick don' rise, we could be convinced to visit again. Hell, we have to go to Savannah anyway... And, as you know, we do have a spare room if you guys end up in the Austin Area. It's not as palatial as your place, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. ;(

September, you say?

If you're anywhere near Provence, or the Italian Riviera, you might run in to us.

I think we're doing Bologna and a couple of days in random Tuscan parts, and a couple days in Florence.
